I've worked at many schools and for leaders with a wide range of priorities. I hold K-12 teaching licenses in California, Missouri, and Kansas. In Kansas I hold a Building Leadership license and, in California, a Certificate of Eligibility for school administrative positions. My teaching experience has primarily been supporting learners, including learners on the autism spectrum and learners with emotional and behavioral challenges, who Special Education services in general education classrooms. I've also worked with learners in alternative settings, such as community and juvenile court schools and a nonpublic school.
At present, I am engaged in independent research in the following areas:
- Legal issues affecting the education practice with a particular interest in constitutional law, religion, and public funding of private schools
- The use of evidence-based practices to improve academic achievement and classroom engagement
- A comparative analysis of how student learning and teacher retention are affected by district culture and climate driven by various factors, including an elected school board, school leaders, and parent involvement in district policymaking
