Hello and thank you for visiting my law office website. I'm grateful to friends who have introduced me to interesting, financially successful, and sometimes famous people who have become clients for small business matters, including reviewing contracts and forming new business entities. In all my practice areas, which include business and general matters, estate planning, condominium and homeowners association law, school law, and business and consumer bankruptcy, I've learned that most people are doing the best they know how. Sometimes we all need some help and I appreciate that you're considering my legal services.
As friend and fellow traveler to those who seek a life of service, fellowship, and recovery from challenges great and small, I offer you greetings. You can move about my Law Office website through the links above or below, or visit my Educators' Homepage here.
Estate Planning
Through my estate planning practice I work to create legal instruments which provide security to clients and their loved ones that choices for distributing assets, managing personal care, and end-of-life decisions are known and legally enforceable. I look forward to helping individuals and couples prepare comprehensive estate plans, including wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and advance healthcare directives. Please see my Estate Planning page.
HOA Law
Before I entered the practice of law, I had a small company providing management services to six Condominium or Homeowners Associations ("HOAs"). As an attorney, I've both represented homeowners in lawsuits against HOAs and assisted HOAs in updating their governing documents and operational procedures to protect against such suits. There's much to appreciate about homeowners associations, including shared expenses for building structures, maintenance, and amenities, and a local governing body to resolve disputes between owners. Yet, when a dispute arises between homeowner and the association it can sometimes seem like the cards are stacked against the homeowner. California provides numerous protections for homeowners when confronted with inaction or uninformed decisions by volunteer board members who may weigh their authority above their responsibility to those they serve. Please see my HOA Law page.
School Law & Autism Resources
State and federal laws and regulations, district board policies, and the unique needs of every student means that understanding a school's authorities and responsibilities to learners can be complex. Before entering the practice of law, I served for many years on the front lines as a public school teacher working with challenging youth in the juvenile justice and alternative education systems, as well as learners with special needs on regular school campuses. There have been periods of time since beginning the practice of law when I have returned to teaching. My experience teaching and the knowledge gained through Master's degrees in Special Education and School Administration combine with my legal education and current research continue to influence my work in this area. Whether you're a parent who needs help for a child receiving special education services, a charter school principal looking for professional development presenters, or an individual in need of other education related legal support, there's a good chance I can help. In addition to a description of legal services provided in the area of school law, you'll find a link to free autism resources on my School Law & Autism Resources page.
Bankruptcy Law
I began practicing law in 2008 which was a rough year financially for many Americans. I was teaching at the time and began being asked repeatedly by friends and coworkers if I handled bankruptcy cases. From 2008 through 2014, throughout Southern California, I represented debtors in 90+ Chapter 7 cases, 25+ Chapter 13 cases, and 8 Chapter 11 cases, including both individual and small business cases. A few of these cases included adversary proceedings, including requests for student loans to be discharged. Please, see my Bankruptcy Law page.
